I am a great fan of cricket and Sachin Tendulkar is my childhood hero. That fact the he broke a lot of records and that nobody else can reach upto him is just something that brings goosebumps and tears in my eyes. Judging on the numerous records taken by Sachin, everyone in India worships him. “God of Cricket”, “Master blaster”, “Little master” etc etc. He is indeed an icon.
When Ms. Sharapova (Famous Tennis player) stated in an interview that she didn’t know who Sachin Tendulkar was then I myself was shocked initially, then I thought “She is from Russia and Every sportsperson need not know everybody else”.
I was just watching a malayalam movie recently called “1983”. In that the wife of a hard-core Cricket fan says that she don’t know who Sachin is. It is an honest reply from her side. With Ms. Sharapova, A Russian Tennis player, who’s good in whatever she does, again it was an honest remark from her. And for this what did our cricket fan boys give in return?
This is a perfect way to show misogyny. They (with the makers of Twitter, Instagram, google+ comments and memes) remarked how blasphemous it is as she didn’t know the “god of Cricket”. So, it seemed okay for the worshipers to make hate and misogynist comments. It also shows how far people have taken the hero worshiping concept in their heads. Besides as a woman from the above comments it is perfectly understood how easy it is to get a “Slut” or “whore” or “porn-star” tag. I am just so ashamed of all those men and women who made those asserts. Worst part is that it has now become a trend in Both Facebook and twitter.
To these people can I ask…
Which is our national flower?
What is Mahatma Gandhi’s first name?
Which is our national tree?
Which is our national bird?
Who wrote “Vande mataram”?
Who wrote “Jana Gana Mana”?
Who was the prime minister of India before Manmohan singh?
Where is India Gate located?
How many states are there in India?
Who is Sarojini Naidu?
Who is Dhyan Chand?
Who is Karnam Malleswari?
Sachin has the highest partnership record with a particular player. Who?
Who was the man of the match when India won the world-cup in 1983?
What is the relationship between Rahul Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru?
Most of these young brats (Not necessarily the ones who commented above) who sits before their laptop/Desktops (with an internet connection and a zero logical brain) couldn’t answer the above questions. #Truestory
Dear Sachin fans,
If you don’t know the basics of our nation and if you can’t answer all these questions or more to a foreigner then you are bathing yourself in black ink. And you are demanding an apology from a respected Tennis player who’s from a country where cricket is not that popular.
You guys and gals must have lit candles for Damini and Badaun girls but you have reminded over again how big the misogynist mentality is. From a country who’s prime motto is “aditi devo bhava” you have welcomed a person’s honesty with gruesomeness. Bad! Very bad!
So learn to appreciate other’s viewpoint. As per our preamble you have every right to express your disappointment. But it shouldn’t hurt other’s as well as our nation’s integrity.
